EXPERIENCE
Genevieve has a lot of experience to share with her clients because she was schooled by the realities of the music industry, having lived as a contemporary songwriter and gigging musician for many years in New York City. She understands the rigors of theatre auditions, classical music exams, working in demanding choral groups and performing as a solo or collaborating artist having gone through all of it herself. Genevieve spent years studying (and is still studying - because there is no end to learning) with legendary voice coach Justin Stoney in her personal commitment to revolutionize Vocal Science and Pedagogy. She has worked in recording studios with mentors in the business who she respects greatly, including cellist Dave Eggar, Michael McElroy (director of Broadway Inspirational Voices) and Reed Black/Vinegar Hill Sound (engineer/producer for Depeche Mode, Imagine Dragons, Vampire Weekend etc).
Students of Genevieve are recipients of her wealth of experiences and enjoy her versatility and ability to teach a multiple range of styles including pop, rock, R&B, classical, folk and musical theatre. Genevieve is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

testimonials
"Genevieve came armed with a multitude of skills that one doesn’t usually affiliate with a simple vocal coach: a two-fisted facility at the piano, with any type of music; a genial sense of humor that put our son at ease, a grasp of all sorts of genres from classical to show tunes to what’s on the radio this exact moment; an ability to bring analogies to the lesson to make it come alive for any student; a kindness with mistakes and a passion for yanking a strong, nuanced performance out of seemingly anyone – even a reticent 14-year-old boy. The results were amazing..." - Carolina Chia, Brooklyn, New York
"I found Gen to be a teacher of high integrity with her musical knowledge and expertise... Genevieve is trustworthy, dependable, honest, talented, humorous and a beautiful being of light and song. I only wish I could send the whole family in for lessons as music is only one of the many things you will learn studying with Gen. I guarantee her work and that you will not be the same person as when you started your musical journey!”

"Lola hit notes that I never knew were possible and ALWAYS had a smile on her face. By the day of the musical she felt prepared and confident, and performed brilliantly, but what was more remarkable was the effect on the rest of life. I can honestly say that her voice lessons with Gen changed her. It gave her the self-esteem she was previously lacking and made her approach other tasks in a more constructive and focused way..." - S.Seetharaman, Brooklyn, New York
"I learned something new every single week and I was always excited to see what I could improve next..."- Isabel Gonzalez, Brooklyn, New York
"Genevieve brings 200% of herself to every lesson, exhibiting exceptional energy. She is impeccably professional, extremely talented, and a pleasure to be around. She aims to understand the goals of her students and she cares very much about helping her students achieve them." - Leah W., Manhattan, New York
"I had the privilege of attending a vocal masterclass that Genevieve conducted. Using her supremely keen observation and deep sensitivity to her students, she rapidly teased remarkable sounds out of each of them. What was especially striking was her joy in conducting the exercises. Her students quickly forget they are being stretched, they simply begin rising up to meet each gleeful demand." - Jonathan T., Singapore

FREquently asked questions
What's the difference between voice lessons and vocal coaching?
Voice lessons focus on technique to extend vocal range, gain flexibility, train vocal strength, learn mixed voice and belt productions, blend between registers, execute a variety of musical and vocal styles, sing high notes with facility, and eventually achieve technical and artistic mastery.
Vocal coaching is for singers looking to prepare for shows, auditions, or the recording studio. These sessions focus on performance approaches, stage presence, stylistic nuances, microphone technique, and learning how to sing different musical styles. It also includes accompaniment, recording accompaniment tracks, repertoire building, audition song selection, and acting coaching.
What can I expect from my first lesson?
All voice lessons are specially customized for the unique needs of each client. But as a guideline, lessons begin with a brief discussion about any prior vocal experience you may have had (if any). This is also a time for Genevieve to understand your vocal goals, and for any additional questions you may have. From there the lesson is typically divided into 2 parts: Vocal Exercises, followed by Song Work. Any material that you’ve been working on or would like to sart working on is welcome. The time spent on these components of the lesson depends entirely on the particular goals of the client.
Do I have to pass an audition in order to have voice lessons?
Genevieve teaches her students vocal technique and helps them achieve greater freedom and ease as they sing, and she does it as a joyful service. There is no audition required to begin voice lessons with Genevieve. All you really need is a joyful desire to sing!
Can I record my lesson?
You are definitely welcome to record your lesson, and it is fully encouraged! Many students use their phones to record their lessons. Alernatively, you can bring a recording device of your choice. Recording your lesson helps you greatly in being able to appraise and continue practising what you worked on during your lesson.
